There are programs built specifically to help people with new spinal cord and brain injuries. Most people miss them simply because nobody tells them they exist. Apply as early as possible — many have waitlists, and getting on them early is the entire strategy.
Provides funding and services for people with traumatic brain injuries, including personal care, assistive technology, community support, and independent living skills. Funding is limited — apply early to get on the waitlist.
Apply / Learn More ↗Provides direct financial assistance to Louisiana residents with traumatic spinal cord injuries for disability-related expenses not covered elsewhere — adaptive equipment, home modifications, assistive technology, and medical costs. This is a grant, not a loan.
Apply / Learn More ↗Louisiana's primary Medicaid waiver for adults with developmental and physical disabilities. Covers personal care attendant (PCA) services — meaning you can hire someone you trust and pay them through the program. Also covers assistive technology, home modifications, and day programs.
A PCA can be hired through NOW, and in some cases a family member may qualify as the paid caregiver.
Apply / Learn More ↗Supports adults with disabilities who want to live in the community rather than a nursing facility. If a care team tells you a nursing home is your only option — ROW is the direct answer to that. Covers supported living, personal care, respite, and assistive technology to make living at home real.
Apply / Learn More ↗Helps people with disabilities enter or return to employment. Can fund assistive technology, college, adaptive equipment, and job coaching — often at no cost to you.
Visit LRS ↗Multiple state and federal programs fund ramps, roll-in showers, wider doorways, and other accessibility modifications. Ask your social worker about LAHAP and HUD Section 504 grants.
Louisiana ILCs are staffed by people who are often disabled themselves. Free benefits counseling, peer support, and help navigating the system. A resource most people never hear about.
Find an ILC ↗Sometimes you just need to talk to someone who gets it. Schedule a free one-on-one video consultation and we'll go over anything — from setting up your first Alexa device to navigating the waiver application process.
This is for anyone — newly injured, family members, caregivers, or people who've been living with a disability for years and want help getting set up with specific technology.
